This book was an entertaining read for me from the very first page.
There was a list of characters, but everyone had their place in
telling me the story as I moved through the pages. Each character
was strong and believable and they all played well off each other, even
if they were villainess. I was completely shocked with the story’s ending
because I really didn’t see it coming. I couldn’t wait to see exactly what
was happening to Tory the entire time I was reading this magnificently
written story. If you’re interested in reading a Paranormal Romance
with Time Travel sprinkled heavily throughout, this is definitely the
story to pick up.

MANIC READERS
Tory Sasser is a counselor. At her favorite book store she finds a box of used books.
One of which is a novel called Heatherfield by Destiny Page. The novel is incomplete
but she’s intrigued by it and by one of it's main characters Jake. Somehow though
when she reads it not only can she 'see' it but, she is suddenly living there! Seemingly
trapped there by the writer, Tory realizes things are strange in town and that she's
falling in love with Jake.
Don't you just love it when a story pulls you in right from the beginning?
That's definitely this one. Stories like Heatherfield are rare gems and
I loved it from beginning to end. The plot is wonderfully interesting
and the pacing of it is really well done. Absolutely a must read!

M. Jean Pike is an amazing author. Her stories are magical, emotional and romantic. I
could read them over and over. Her new release, Heatherfield, is another beautiful
story and one that I highly recommend.
Heatherfield is an enchanting romance that will keep you turning the pages long
into the night. What happens when you suddenly find yourself living in the world of
the unfinished book that you were reading? For Tory Sasser, this is exactly what
happens. She finds an old book in a box at the used book store and takes it home.
She becomes so emotionally involved with the story that she finds herself crying. As
a tear hits a blank page of this unfinished book, the story suddenly begins to write
itself. The next day as she’s driving, she gets into an accident and wakes up to
find herself in the fictitious town of Heatherfield, circa 1940’s, and straight into the
arms of the hero, Jake Benjamin!
What a unique plot and it is just that which makes Heatherfield stand out from the
crowd. Tory and Jake are wonderful characters. Jake is an honorable man, albeit a
lonely and brokenhearted man. There’s something about Tory that awakens a fire
within him that has long been dormant. My heart instantly melted for him.
Tory has to figure out how she got into this book and how to get back out, however,
her feelings for Jake are very strong and she has been making a name for herself in
town. She has to choose to stay in this fictitious world or leave the only man she’s ever
cared for behind. Heatherfield will pull at your heartstrings!
There is a simple elegance to M. Jean Pike’s writing. The proof is in the pages of her
new release. I love the emotions she provokes in me just by her writing. Her previous book,
Waiting for the Rain, made me cry and it is one of my favorite books. There is a scene
halfway through Heatherfield where Jake reads a poem directed to Tory. It was such a
moving scene and it brought tears to my eyes. It is a rare thing to find an author who knows
how to reach out to her readers and draw them into the story.
Heatherfield by M. Jean Pike is a treasure and it is a book that I recommend everyone read!

Heatherfield
by M. Jean Pike
Deep in a box of used books, counselor Tory Sasser comes across a novel without an ending: Heatherfield. As she reads the story of scarred war veteran, Jake Benjamin, her tears fall on the pages—and she could swear new words appear where once there was nothing.
But the fictional town of Heatherfield isn’t all it seems, nor is its creator, Destiny Paige. When Tory’s car runs off the road into the mist, she’s transported back to the 1940s—into the novel, trapped by the spirits that govern the place through Destiny. Even more, Tory is caught by the honest warmth and complicated tenderness that is Jake Benjamin.
Realizing she’s falling in love with Jake, Tory is desperate to find her way back home to reality. Yet what is more real than true love? No, Heatherfield isn’t all it seems ... not at all.
I am a huge sucker for flawed characters, twisty plots, and humongous odds, and Heatherfield has all three in abundance. Combine that with the author's clear, simple language, deft use of period slang, and good dialogue and we have a hit on our hands.
Tory is burned out and discouraged by her job working with domestic abuse victims. When we meet her, she seems to be drowning in it. She obtains a book from a friend who owns her local bookstore and, even though it's unfinished, it deeply touches her. Those two elements combine with a car accident to transport her to 1940's Heatherfield where she encounters the hero. Jake is a physically and emotionally scarred WWII veteran whose combination of tough and tender makes one want to swoon and cling.
Tory and Jake's stakes are huge: If Tory falls in love with Jake, she might never be able to go home. But if she resists, she risks missing out on the love of her life and all of the happiness that goes with it. It's an awful choice, but if she didn't have to make it, the story wouldn't have been nearly as good. And she doesn't make it arbitrarily. Ms. Pike does a good job of setting up Tory's life before and during Heatherfield so that the reader clearly understands why she does what she does, but it's not so obvious that you can guess the ending.
I recommend Heatherfield for any romance reader, but particularly for those who enjoy old movies.

"Outstanding Great Read"
Victoria Sasser, Tory, is a certified counselor who tries to help women who have been victimized. She retrieves an old book with no ending. The town of Heatherfield is just a fictitious town created by its author, Destiny Paige, but not to Tory after she discovers the book and begins reading it. Soon it appears Tory might need the counseling when she is transported into a different time.
Jake Benjamin is a scarred war veteran trying to erase the invisible scars that haunt his dreams. He carries much sorrow in his heart since serving in the war. The compassionate and loving man lives in the mountains, staying to himself, but once he meets Tory, things look differently for him.
In no time Tory is transported back to the 1940's where she encounters scarred Jake. Believing she is dreaming, Tory does not understand how her car accident sent her back in time. Jake finds Tory wandering in the woods and takes her to his home. She finds it hard to believe she is in the storybook town of Heatherfield . While trying to find her way back to reality Tory forms a deep friendship with Jake that soon develops into much more. Spirits seem to be pushing them together. As much as she wishes to return to the present, Tory feels she has more to fight for if she stays with Jake. In addition, Jake has a feeling Tory can help to heal his wounds.
Heatherfield yields a great plot, with complex characters that keep the story moving at a steady pace. I was deeply moved by Jake and what he has suffered during the war. Tory is a refreshing woman who had me on the edge-of-my-seat wondering her outcome in this story with the past and the present. M. Jean Pike weaves a spellbinding page-turner read. The story is beautifully told in this paranormal romance. Everythingappears so genuine and there were times I could share in all the ambience of events that she paints beautifully throughout the story. It is a delightful story that captivates the reader.

Paranormal Romance/Suspense
Counselor Tory Sasser finds an incomplete book titled HEATHERFIELD in her favorite bookstore. The book is about a World War II solider, who returns to his small New York town-- wounded in spirit and scarred from war. Tory is so moved by the book, that her tears fall on it, and she notices that the book seems to be adding material. Later, one of the women Tory counsels calls needing help, because her boyfriend has beaten her badly. Tory rushes out into the stormy night and loses control of her car. When Tory awakens, she finds herself in the woods. Jake Benjamin, the hero from her book, finds Tory and rescues her. Tory has somehow been transported into the pages of her book. Will Tory find her way back home, and does she even want to return?
HEATHERFIELD is an interesting paranormal tale with a unique and surprising ending. That the ending caught me unawares is an understatement, in fact, HEATHERFIELD reminded me of a TWILIGHT ZONE episode. I'm still undecided; if the ending is satisfying or not, so be warned some readers may not appreciate the ending. The romance between Tory and Jake is delightful and the descriptions of Heatherfield and its populace are so vibrant, that I felt transported there.
HEATHERFIELD is an entertaining read with a TWILIGHT ZONE feel.

"M. Jean Pike has captured a chiller of a paranormal romance in her astounding tale Heatherfield... Her vision of the late forties is incredible. Mingled with flashbacks of war, beautiful mountain scenery and a horrible car accident, the images were vividly colorful and just plain stunning. This is a unique romance that will make you laugh, chill you with “gooseflesh” and bring tears to your eyes."
